Letter Cards

You can use our letter cards to make words and help your child read.
Download, print and then cut out the cards. Click here to download the cards Then try the following:
  • Ask your child, 'What's this?' - very simple, use the cards to make a word and ask your child to read it. BE PATIENT! Expect them to have trouble especially over the middle letter. They might need you to help sound out the middle letter sound.
  • Ask your child, 'Make this word....?' - put all the cards down on the floor and ask them to make a word - make it more fun by competing with your child, who can find the card first...child, mum or dad?

Flip Book

You can use our flip book to make words and help your child read.
Download, print and then make the flipbook. Click here to download the flipbook Then try the following:
  • Ask your child, 'What's this?' - very simple, use the flipbook to make a word and ask your child to read it. BE PATIENT! Expect them to have trouble especially over the middle letter. They might need you to help sound out the middle letter sound.
  • Ask your child, 'Make this word....?' - ask them to make a word - make it more fun by competing with your child (you will need two flipbooks to do this), who can make the card first...child, mum or dad?

Rhyming words

Rhyming words are words that have the same ending sound, for example cAT, bAT and rAT are rhyming words. Understanding rhyming words can help your child read. You can use our rhyming words cards to make words and help your child read.
1. Download, print and then cut out the cards. Click here to download the cards Then try the following:
  • Ask your child, 'Match up the rhymes' - put all the cards on the floor and ask your child to match up the rhymes. You can make this a game by trying to match up the cards yourself. Who can find the most pairs, you or your child?
2. Download, print and then make our special rhyming words book. We have two rhyming word books, one easy, and one difficult.
My Rhyming book (SIMPLE) In this book, each page has 4 pictures. Students are given the spelling of the first word and then have to write the other 3 words. The words are all simple and all share the same spelling pattern. For example, on the first page students are given the word CAT and then have to write the words HAT, BAT and RAT. (7 pages)
My Rhyming book (HARD) In this book, each page has 4 pictures. Students have to write the word for each picture. The 4 pictures on each page rhyme, but they often don't share a spelling pattern. For example of the first page the words are KEY, BEE, TREE and THREE. (7 pages)
